Preface to the e-Sword Edition

Every effort was made by the module editor to retain the integrity of the author’s original work in its transfer to e-Sword Topic module format.

The following list indicates changes made by the editor:

•         Chapter subsections were given numeric assignments.

•         Bolded author’s delineation of lists to increase readability.

•         Underlined all cited works.

•         Formatted all Scripture references into e-Sword “Scripture Tool Tips”. The strategy of this formatting is explained below.

•         All Greek and Hebrew words have been italicized and their Strong’s number has been added parenthetically in forest green underlined text, which will serve to remind the e-Sword user that “hovering” over the Strong’s number will invoke Strong’s Tool Tips.

•         Created “white space” where practical to improve computer screen readability.

Mr. Chafer, as explained in his notes opening Chapter 1, cited many Scripture references. Often, very large, multi-chapter passages are cited, and the editor sought to format all of these as Scripture Tool Tips, full well knowing that doing so generates oversized Tool Tips which are unnavigable. However, two benefits are gained with this strategy, the first being consistency, the second being that of providing the e-Sword user ease of navigation, as “right clicking” any Scripture Tool Tip causes navigation of the Bible pane to the Scripture referenced in the Tool Tip.

Mr. Chafer made frequent reference to the A.R.V. in association with Scripture citations. The A.R.V. refers to the American Revised Version, a colloquial name given to the American Standard Version, which is available hyperlink. The information provided with the e-Sword A.S.V. Bible module provides interesting insight as to why the colloquial name was given. In order to ensure the author’s emphasis, where ever the A.R.V. is cited without quotation, the A.S.V. quotation is added in [dark blue, bolded, bracketed, text].

The reader of this topic, if they have not already done so, may find it useful to download and install the e-Sword Commentary module Scofield's Reference Notes, which is available hyperlink. As a student of Scofield's, Chafer quotes him extensively in this work.
