children = sons.

Israel which dwelt in. Judah. Here was a nucleus of true worshippers constantly increased (1Ki_12:19. 1Ch_9:3. 2Ch_10:17; 2Ch_11:3, 2Ch_11:16, 2Ch_11:17; 2Ch_15:9; 2Ch_16:1; 2Ch_19:8; 2Ch_23:2; 2Ch_30:1, 2Ch_30:5, 2Ch_30:10, 2Ch_30:11; 2Ch_31:6). In Ezr_1:5; Ezr_2:2, Ezr_2:59, Ezr_2:70; Ezr_7:13; Ezr_9:1; Ezr_10:5, those returning of Judah's captivity are called "of Israel", and "all Israel", 1Ki_2:2, 1Ki_2:70; 1Ki_3:1; 1Ki_6:21; 1Ki_7:10, 1Ki_7:13; 1Ki_8:25; 1Ki_9:1; 1Ki_10:1, 1Ki_10:2, 1Ki_10:5, 1Ki_10:10, 1Ki_10:25. Neh_2:10; Neh_7:7, Neh_7:61, Neh_7:73; Neh_8:17; Neh_10:33; Neh_11:3; Neh_12:47. Judah was thus always representative of "all Israel". Hence Act_4:27, "the People of Israel", and Act_2:14, Act_2:22, Act_2:36, "of Judah". The two words are used interchangeably, except where otherwise stated. See note on "all the house of Israel", Exo_16:31. Also on 1Ch_22:17; 1Ch_23:2. 2Ch_12:6, "princes of Israel", used of Judah before the division. Also, on the cause of the increase of Judah, see note on 2Ch_13:3.
