This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
him that, &c. = every male.
shut up and left. The commentators speak of the text being obscure or corrupt. But 'azab is a Homonym, meaning: (1) to leave (as in Gen_2:24; Gen_39:6. Neh_5:10. Psa_49:10. Mai. 1Ki_4:1); and (2) to restore, repair, fortify (as in Neh_3:8. Exo_23:5 (see note there). Deu_32:36. Deu_14:10. 2Ki_14:26. Jer_49:25). Here it means "strengthened and fortified": i.e. they will not escape. Compare 1Ki_21:21. 2Ki_9:8.
