was pressed, &c. Read, was engrossed with or by (Greek. en) the word, i.e. his testimony.
spirit. All thetexts read "word" (Greek. logos. App-121.10).
and testified = earnestly testifying. Greek. diamarturomai. See note on Act_2:40.

was = is.
Christ = the Messiah. App-98. Compare 1Co_1:23. This was to the Jews a horrible "scandal".
