stoned him = kept easting stones at him. Greek. lithoboleo. Compare Mar_12:4.
witnesses. See note on Act_1:8. In accordance with the law they had to cast the first stone (Deu_17:7).
young man. Greek. neanias. Only here, Act_20:9; Act_23:17, Act_23:18, Act_23:22. He was probably about thirty-three years of age. Neanias was the next period to neaniskos (App-108. x), but the limits are very uncertain.
