Damascus. Probably the oldest city in the world. First mentioned in Gen_14:15. Founded before Baal-bee and Palmyra, has outlived them both. In David's time a garrison town (2Sa_8:6). Rebelled against Solomon (1Ki_11:24). Many interesting events connected with it See 2Ki_8:7-15; 2Ki_14:28; 2Ki_16:9, 2Ki_16:10; 2Ch_24:23. Isa_7:8, &c.
of this way = being of the way. Note the term "the way" to describe the faith of the believers. See Act_18:25, Act_18:26; Act_19:9, Act_19:23; Act_22:4; Act_24:14, Act_24:22, and compare Joh_14:6.
