This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

The first, &c. Cannot be Babylon, for this had already arisen, and was within two years of its end (see notes on Dan_7:1). Daniel could not see that kingdom arise now. He had said, "Thou art this head of gold" (Dan_2:38); but Nebuchadnezzar himself had been dead twenty-three years, and these are "four kings which shall arise" (Dan_7:17). Therefore Babylon is not included.

I beheld = I continued looking, as in verses: Dan_7:6, Dan_7:9, Dan_7:11. Same as "I saw" in verses: Dan_7:2, Dan_7:7, Dan_7:13.
