Ishmeelites. Son_39:1. In Gen_37:28 and Gen_37:36 called Midianites. Ishmael was the son of Abraham by Hagar (Gen_16:11, Gen_16:12); Midian the son of Abraham by Keturah (Gen_25:2). See Jdg_8:24, Jdg_8:25, where they were mixed together, and were distinguished only by their noserings. (Compare Gen_24:47; Gen_35:4. Exo_32:2, &c.)
