Eliphaz. From Teman, which is connected with Esau and Edom (Gen_36:4, Gen_36:11. 1Ch_1:35, 1Ch_1:36, 1Ch_1:53, &c). Temanites famed for wisdom. He argued from the standpoint of human experience.

Bildad. Probably descended from Shuah, youngest son of Keturah by Abraham (Gen_25:2). Settled east of Palestine (Gen_25:6). He argued from human tradition.

Zophar. Probably from Naamah, southern frontier of Judah. He argued from the ground of human merit.
