sword = weapons. Hebrew. shelach = missiles, supposed to be "a late word" because not used earlier than 2Ch_23:10; 2Ch_32:5. Neh_4:17, Neh_4:23; but it is used in Job_33:18; Job_36:12. Son_4:13.
they shall not, &c. Compare Rev 9. The whole scene belongs to "the day of the Lord". Only confusion arises from not keeping the symbol distinct from what is symbolized.
