This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

of Nazareth = the Nazarene. For some reason Nazareth had an evil name (See Joh_1:46), and so Nazarene was a term of reproach. The name has nothing to do with Nazarite (separated) applied to Joseph (Gen_49:26), and those like Samson who took the vow of Num 6.

I am.Greek. ego eimi. These words were used nine times in Joh_4:26; Joh_6:20; Joh_8:24, Joh_8:28, Joh_8:58; Joh_13:19, as well as in Joh_18:5, Joh_18:6, Joh_18:8. Whatever may be said of the first two instances, the others are claims to the Divine title of Exo_3:14 (App-98). See esp. Joh_8:58. There are fourteen instances of the metaphorical use of the phrase in connection with "bread", "light", &c.
