wash his flesh in water = bathe his body. Flesh put by Figure of speech Synecdoche (of Part), App-6, for his body, as in Ecc_2:3. Isa_10:8. Eze_10:12. Occurs eight times in Leviticus (Lev_14:9; Lev_15:13, Lev_15:16; Lev_16:4, Lev_16:24, Lev_16:26, Lev_16:28; Lev_22:6), and is rendered in three different ways in Authorized Version. But a peculiar ritual phrase should obviously be rendered by the same English phrase. This is to be distinguished from "himself" in Lev_14:8; Lev_15:5, Lev_15:6, Lev_15:7, Lev_15:8, Lev_15:10, Lev_15:11, Lev_15:16, Lev_15:18, Lev_15:21, Lev_15:22, Lev_15:27; Lev_17:16.
