This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

spake. This formula denotes another communication made at a different time, and gives a further development of the laws of the trespass offering. Note that in this book Jehovah "spake" at thirty-five "sundry times", and in ten "divers manners" (see App-10):

(1) To Moses alone (Lev_5:14; Lev_6:1, Lev_6:19; Lev_8:1; Lev_14:1; Lev_22:26; Lev_23:26).

(2) To Moses, to speak to Aaron alone (Lev_16:1).

(3) To Moses, to speak to "Aaron and his sons" (Lev_6:8, Lev_6:24; Lev_22:1).

(4) To Moses, to speak to "the priests, the sons of Aaron" (Lev_21:1).

(5) To Moses, to speak to "Aaron and his sons, and in all the children of Israel" (Lev_17:1; Lev_21:16 (Compare Lev_5:24); Lev_22:17).

(6) To Moses, to speak to "the children of Israel" (Lev_1:1; Lev_4:1; Lev_7:22, Lev_7:28;

Lev_12:1; Lev_18:1; Lev_20:1; Lev_23:1, Lev_23:9, Lev_23:23; Lev_24:1, Lev_24:13; Lev_25:1; Lev_27:1).

(7) To Moses, to speak "to all the congregation of the children of Israel" (Lev_19:1).

(8) To Moses and Aaron conjointly (Lev_13:1; Lev_14:33).

(9) To Moses and Aaron, to speak to "the children of Israel" (Lev_11:1; Lev_15:1).

(10) To Aaron alone (Lev_10:8).

The reasons for these distinctions will be seen from the respective contexts.
