hale = haul. Anglo-Saxon holian. Occurs only here in N.T.



officer = tax-gatherer:i.e. the adversary of the first



clause. Greek. praktor = doer, or executive officer. Thus used in the Papyri. Occurs only here in N.T.; once in LXX, Isa_3:12. He was the one who could cast a defaulter into prison.
