the innocent. (No Art.) The innocence of the Lord affirmed by six witnesses, three in Matthew and three in Luk_:1. Judas (Mat_27:4);

2. Pilate (Mat_27:24);

3. Pilate's wife (Mat_27:19);

4. Herod (Luk_23:15);

5. the malefactor (Luk_23:41);

6. the Roman centurion (Luk_23:47).

blood. Put by Figure of speech Synecdoche (of the Part), App-6, for the whole person, with a latent reference to Mat_27:6. Compare verses: Mat_24:25. Psa_94:21. Pro_1:11.
