worthy = fit or equal. Not the same word as "meet for" in Mat_3:8.
bear = bring or fetch. Mark: "stoop down and unloose". Luke: "unloose". Probably repeated often in different forms.
He shall baptize. "He" is emph. = He Himself will, and no other. See App-115. See Act_1:4, Act_1:5; Act_2:3; Act_11:15. Isa_44:3. Compare Eze_36:26, Eze_36:27. Joe_2:28.
baptize . . . with. See App-115.
the Holy Ghost = pneuma hagion, holy spirit, or "power from on high". No Articles. See App-101.
fire. See Act_2:3. Note the Figure of speech Hendiadys (App-6) = with pneuma hagion = yea, with a burning (or purifying) spirit too, separating the chaff from the wheat (Mat_3:12), not mingling them together in water. "Fire" in Mat_3:11. Mat_3:35 symbolic (see Isa_4:3. Ma Mat_1:3, Mat_1:1-4; Mat_4:1. Compare Psa_1:4; Psa_35:5. Isa_17:13; Isa_30:24; Isa_41:16. Jer_51:2. Hos_13:3). In Mat_3:12, the "fire" is literal; for destroying, not for purging. Note the seven emblems of the Spirit (or of pneuma hagion) in Scripture. "FIRE" (Mat_3:11. Act_2:3); "WATER" (Eze_36:25.
