This Chapter Verse Commentaries:
treasures = treasuries. and Syriac render it "created" (ektise). Compare the use of the verb in this book (Pro_1:5; Pro_4:5, Pro_4:7; Pro_16:16; Pro_17:16; Pro_18:15; Pro_19:8; Pro_20:14; Pro_22:23). Hebrew. kanah. Occurs eighty-six times in O.T.; rendered "possess" only four times. Compare "wisdom" (Luk_11:49).
beginning . . . Before. See Co Pro_1:1, Pro_1:15-17; Pro_2:9. Rev_3:14. Joh_1:1; Joh_17:5, "begotten before the world . . . born in the world". Elohim taking creature form in order to create; as He, later, took human form (flesh) to redeem. Hence "creation" and "redemption" combined in Christ (Rev_4:11; Rev_5:9). Man created in His likeness: that in which He appeared to the patriarchs and to Joshua (Pro_5:13) was not temporary, or assumed for the moment, but was permanent.
His way. As distinct from His "works" (Psa_103:7).
Before. To this must be referred Eph_1:4, and Co Pro_1:1, Pro_1:17. Three times we have "before the foundation (or disruption, . Gen_1:2. See note on Mat_13:35) of the world" (Joh_17:24. Eph_1:4, and 1Pe_1:20). Compare the expression "from (or, since) the foundation of the world", seven times (Mat_13:35; Mat_25:34. Luk_11:50. Heb_4:3; Heb_9:26. Rev_13:8; Rev_17:8). See note on Mat_13:35. The former has to do with the "Church", the latter with the "Kingdom"; the former with God's "purpose", the latter with His "counsels".
