propitiation. Greek. hilasterion. Only here and Heb_9:5. The word comes to us from the Septuagint. In Exo_25:17 kapporeth (cover) is rendered hilasterion epithema, propitiatory cover, the cover of the ark on which the blood was sprinkled as the means of propitiation.
