If it have not works (ean mē echēi erga). Another condition of the third class with ean and mē and the present active subjunctive of echō, “if it keep on not having works.”
In itself (kath' heautēn). In and of itself (according to itself), inwardly and outwardly dead (nekra). Same idiom in Act 28:16; Rom 14:22. It is a dead faith.
