That ye should not be made to stumble (hina mē skandalisthēte). Purpose clause with negative mē and first aorist passive of skandalizō, common verb in the Synoptics (Mat 13:21) “the skandala of faith, the stumblingblocks which trip up a disciple” (Bernard), in John only Joh 6:61 and here (cf. 1Jo 2:10).
