The Pavement (Lithostrōton). Late compound from lithos, stone, and the verbal adjective strōtos form strōnnumi, to speak, a mosaic or tesselated pavement, spread with stones, in 2Ch 7:3, Josephus, Epictetus, papyri. The Chaldean name Gabbathā, an elevation, was apparently given because of the shape.
