I perceive (theōrō). “I am beginning to perceive†from what you say, your knowledge of my private life (Joh 4:29). See Joh 2:23 for theōreō which John’s Gospel has 23 times, of bodily sight (Joh 20:6, Joh 20:14), of mental contemplation (Joh 12:45; Joh 14:17). See both theōreō and optomai in Joh 1:51; Joh 16:16.
That thou art a prophet (hoti propheÌ„teÌ„s ei su). “That a prophet art thou†(emphasis on “thouâ€). She felt that this was the explanation of his knowledge of her life and she wanted to change the subject at once to the outstanding theological dispute.
