He looked upon them (emblepsas autois). Not in Mark and Matthew. First aorist active participle of emblepoĢ, to look on. It was a piercing glance. The scripture quoted is from Psa 118:22 and is in Mar 11:10; see Mat 21:42 for the inverted attraction of the case lithon (stone) to that of the relative hon (which).
