a prophet: The word navi, rendered a prophet, not only signifies one who foretell future events, but also an intercessor, instructor. See note on 1Sa 10:1; see note on 1Ki 18:1-46; and see note on 1Co 14:4. The title was also given to men eminent for eloquence and literary abilities.
