A giant war-like race, which occupied the region E. of the Dead Sea, in which the Moabites succeeded them (; ). Perhaps related to "Amu" the Egyptian word in the hieroglyphics for nomadic Shemites. The Hebrew means "terrible ones." The Rephaim were on the N.E. of Jordan, the Zuzim next, then the Emim, then the Horim on the S.E.; all gigantic.
