1. Caleb's father. (See CALEB.) Of the Kenezites (), seemingly an Edomite tribe, Kenaz being a "duke of Edom" (; ; ; ). Edomite names occur in Caleb's genealogy, as Shobal (; ). If the similarity of some names among Israel and Edom be not due to their being kindred peoples, it shows that Caleb's family was an Edomite one incorporated into Judah.
