1. A town in the mountains of Judah (); probably eight or nine miles S. of Hebron.
2. The judge Tola's home and burial place in Mount Ephraim (-2). Why Tola of Issachar dwelt there is uncertain; either for security from the Canaanites, or Issachar may have possessed some towns in the Ephraim mountains. Van de Velde identifies Shamir with Khirbet Sammer, a ruin in the mountains overlooking the Jordan valley, ten miles E.S.E. of Nablus.
