Joh 18:13. Πρῶτον, first) merely by way of honour. Comp. Act 4:6 [where ‘Annas’ is mentioned as High Priest; the same words however being understood after ‘Caiaphas,’ who comes next]. That the Saviour was presently after led thence to Caiaphas, John intimates by the fact, that he says that Caiaphas was the High Priest, and that Peter went in with Jesus into the palace of Caiaphas: Joh 18:15, at the end.
