This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

Luk 7:6. Ἤδη δὲ, but now) Whilst he feels sensibly the promptness of the Lord, the reverence of his faith increases in the centurion.-φίλους, friends) He had sent elders for the sake of beseeching (Luk 7:4): now he employs friends to deliver a second message. Could then friends “come unto” the Lord, when the centurion himself did not? Yes; because they went unto the Lord in behalf of the centurion, not in behalf of themselves. The one and the same faith produces in different persons different mental effects and emotions.
