Mat_19:1a is a closing formula like that which closes the three previous great discourses in Mat_7:28, Mat_11:1, Mat_13:53. Of the verses omitted, 37b has already found a place in 10:40; 38-40 are omitted because they break the tenor of the speech; 41 has already been recorded in 10:42; 48-50 are probably omitted on account of their difficulty. A saying parallel to v. 50 has already been recorded in 5:13. Of the verses inserted, 12-14 find a parallel in a different context in Luk_15:3-7; Luk_6 finds a parallel in a different context in Luk_17:2; Luk_7 in Luk_17:1; Luk_15 in Luk_17:3; and 21 in Luk_17:4.
