This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

1Sa_2:30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed [that] thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

Ver. 30. I said indeed.] Not as if God did at any time say and unsay: but many of his sayings are conditional, sc., if men reciprocate, if they prove faithful in the covenant.

For them that honour me I will honour.
] This is a bargain of God’s own making; you may bind upon it.

And they that despise me.] God’s visitation is like a checker board, black and white.
