2Ch_28:5 Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought [them] to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
Ver. 5. Wherefore the Lord his God,] i.e., That should have been his God, and would have been too, had he been oughts [as he ought].
Into the hand of the king of Syria,] i.e., Of Rezin, whom God raised up to be a scourge to Judah, to chastise them for their idolatry and other impieties.
And they smote him,] viz., When they took Elah. See 2Ki_16:6.
