2Sa_23:20 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:

Ver. 20. The son of a valiant man.] Fortes creantur fortibus et bonis. {a}



He slew two lion-like men.
] Heb., Two Ariels of Moab, perhaps they were brothers, but coeur-de-lions certainly, {b} Or, He took two strong forts, called Ariel, both, - as Vatablus.



And slew a lion.
] Which feared the people with his roaring. This was not rashness or ostentation, but magnanimity.
