2Sa_7:17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Ver. 17. So did Nathan speak unto David.] He unsaid what he had said before, {2Sa_7:3} and thought it no such disgrace - since God had now revealed his mind to the contrary - as Jonah did, {Jon_4:1-3} swelling, till he was ready to burst again. See the like piety and modesty in Isa_38:5. Augustine also is famous for his book of "Retractations"; wherein none had imitated him in Ludovicus Vives’s time. Bellarmine hath since written a book of "Recognitions": {a} but therein he maketh some things worse than before.
