7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Ver. 7. The spirit of fear] äåéëåéáò , called elsewhere the spirit of bondage, äïõëåéáò , Rom_8:15. The law will convince the judgment; but it is the gospel that convinceth the lust and the affection.
Of power and of a sound mind] These two fitly stand together. Sin unrepented of, lies rotting at the heart, and by rotting weakeneth it, as a rotten rag hath no strength.
