19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.



Ver. 19. Which used curious arts] The Ephesians were much addicted to the black art. Whence that ancient proverb, Åöåóéá ãñáììáôá , Ephesian learning for necromancy. Cornelius Agrippa’s dog had a devil tied to his collar, as some write. And Paracelsus (or else Erastus belies him) had one confined to his sword pommel.
