This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

Ver. 2. That their hearts may be comforted] Ministers are "sons of consolation," while by them God maketh the heart to hear of joy and gladness, Psa_51:8, and createth the fruit of their lips peace, peace, &c., Isa_57:19.

Being knit together] No such comfort upon the earth, as in the communion of saints; it differeth from the happiness of heaven but in degrees only.

Of the full assurance of understanding] Such as was that of St Luke, Col_1:3. {See Trapp on "Col_1:3"}
