Gen_24:22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten [shekels] weight of gold;

Ver. 22. The man took a golden earring.] Abiliment, or jewel; Ut imponeret naso eius, saith Junius, to hang upon her nose, or forehead. {as Gen_24:47} Each country hath its fashions and garnishes. In very many places of America, they have their lower lips bored through; as likewise, the upper parts of their ears, and something put into them. Which, as it seems to themselves to be a point of beauty, so it makes them appear to others to be wondrous ugly. {a}
