10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Ver. 10. From his own works] From the servile works of sin, Psa_18:23. These are our own works. As a lie is the devil’s own, Joh_8:44, "When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own;" so when we do evil, we work de nostro et secundum hominem, 1Co_3:3. It is as impossible for us naturally to do good as for a toad to spit cordials.
