Isa_5:30 And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: and if [one] look unto the land, behold darkness [and] sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.
Ver. 30. Like the roaring of the sea.] The noise whereof is so hideous, that the shrieking of the devil is set forth by it. {Jam_2:19} {See Trapp on "Jam_2:19"}
And if one look into the land.] Or, To the earth below, behold darkness, &c., as if to the heavens, the light also there is darkened. Man cannot help them; God will not. To such straits of "an evil, an only evil," are such oft brought, as think themselves out of the reach of God’s rod. Vae victis. Alas, having been conquered.
