This Chapter Verse Commentaries:

Isa_51:12 I, [even] I, [am] he that comforteth you: who [art] thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man [that] shall die, and of the son of man [which] shall be made [as] grass;

Ver. 12. I, even I, am he that comforteth you.] This is certainly an answer to that supplication, {Isa_51:10} and it comprehendeth a reprehension and an expostulation about their pusillanimity, which was more than womanly. Therefore it followeth,



Who art thou?
] {a} Heb., Thou woman, thou hen hearted creature.



That thou shouldest be afraid of a man?
] Heb., Sorry man, ab homine misero, aerumnoso, damnato ad mortem, ab hoste faeneo, An enemy of clouts, as we say. We trouble ourselves oft through ignorance; in the dark everything scares us.
