Ver. 17. That he had lain in the grave four days] So that he might seem now to come too late. The faith of the two sisters must needs be much shaken, to see their brother dead, though Christ had sent them word he should not die. Hold out, faith and patience, God will be seen in the mount; he usually reserves his hand for a dead lift, when our faith begins to flag and hang the wing, when our strength is gone, and we have given up all for lost. "Now will I arise, saith the Lord; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself," Isa_33:10.
