9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.



Ver. 9. That the saying might be fulfilled, &c.] Christ spake it of their souls, it is here applied to their bodies. God hath a fatherly care of both, and will not lay more upon the outward man than the inward shall be enabled to undergo. Hence that of the prophet, "Behold, I have tried thee, but not as silver," Isa_48:10. Why so? because God’s weak children having far more dross in them than good ore, would never be able to abide a strict trial.
