1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
Ver. 1. Took Jesus and scourged him] So God scourgeth every son whom he receiveth, Heb_12:6. One Son he had that was sine corruptione et flagitio, without corruption and shame, but none that was sine corruptione et flagello, withouit corruption and scourging. In him therefore that rule held not, Flagitium et flagellum, sicut acus et filum, Punishment follows sin, as the thread follows the needle.
