16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.



Ver. 16. My doctrine is not mine] As if he had said, this should not be scandalum, sed scala; not a stumblingblock, but a ladder to lift you up to see the Divine handiwork, and to make you say, as Eze_3:12; "Blessed be the glory of the Lord from his place:" since I have my learning from above, and am (as Nicodemus acknowledged) "a teacher sent from God."
