54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:



Ver. 54. It is my Father that honoureth me] According to that, "Them that honour me, I will honour," 1Sa_2:30; this is a bargain of God’s own making. Fame follows virtue, as the shadow the body; or if not, yet she is proprio contenta theatro, content with her own applause.
