1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
Ver. 1. Many have taken in hand] Or, have attempted, åðå÷åéñçóáí , but not effected. Hence some have concluded, that Luke wrote first of the four evangelists. Howbeit the common opinion is (and the most ancient copies say as much) that Matthew wrote his Gospel eight years after Christ, Mark ten, Luke fifteen, and John forty-two.
