Num_25:1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

To commit whoredom.] By the wicked counsel of Balaam, who knew well, that no one means hath more enriched hell than beautiful faces, and therefore taught Balak to lay this stumblingblock before the children of Israel; and is therein held by some to have sinned against the Holy Ghost.
