Pro_9:16 Whoso [is] simple, let him turn in hither: and [as for] him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

Ver. 16. Who is simple.] Wisdom’s own words. {Pro_9:4} Take heed, saith our Saviour; they come unto you "in sheep’s clothing"; {Mat_7:15} but trust them not, for "with fair words and flattering speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple" {Rom_16:18} Samuel himself could not have spoken more gravely, severely, divinely to Saul, than the fiend at Endor did. When the devil himself puts on gravity and religion, who can marvel at the hypocrisy of men?
