18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.



Ver. 18. Were angry] Sed vanae sine viribus irae; the wrath of these men turned to the glory of God.



That they should be judged] According to their prayer, and thy promise, Rev_6:10-11.



And shouldest destroy them] God usually retaliates and proportions jealousy to jealousy, provocation to provocation, Deu_32:21; frowardness to frowardness, Psa_18:26; contrariety to contrariety, Lev_26:18; Lev_26:21; destruction to destruction, as here. He pays them home in their own coin.
